David Weinberger et Dan Gillmor lancent un site, Word Pirates, ou chacun peut se ré-approprier le vocabulaire détourné par les politiciens et les vendeurs.
Par exemple, le mot "Pirate" lui même a été détourné par les grandes sociétés de contenus. Ils s'en servent pour désigner "Quiconque partage des fichiers". Les vrais pirates pratiquaient le meurtre, l'enlèvement et le vol. Ils ne partageaient pas de la musique légalement ou illégalement.
